An I suspect that even the Chicks did not contemplate the depths of depravity so much of the country fan base had sunk to. But there is nothing like the dose of cold water a ton of depraved hate mail, and few hundred death threats can do to wake you up and make you pay attention. I guess if I had been a fan, the steel in their spine might not have been a suprise. But their new song aught to insipre even the "Boss" with these words.

The Democrats should make it their Anthem
or at the least invite the Dixie Chicks to do the National Convention.
Contry indeed has its roots in Folk and Irish Folk lies at the roots of American folk. But the part of folk that I was most impressed with was that it had Ideas beyond just sex and relationships (not that those are bad ;) but there are other concepts in the world).
ReplyDeleteCountry went all Jerry Springer all the time and got way beyond my gag reflex (rock seemed to do the same only more Situation comedy) I suppose there are other Folk type ideas, but rare enough I'm never there when they play.
Now Jerry Springer has some real ideas as his Air America show has shown but Springer and Country and even Rock went where the money was and lost its more genuine roots in search of that titanimum ring. The Moguls of the business weren't into understanding real folks problems much either, sex became the only politics that was safe. Untill they started pushing Right Wing politics.
If the Dixie Chicks can make their music easy on the ear and hard on "The Man", that would be fabulous, but it would be leaving Country for the more mentally Hearty Meal of Folk if less filling to the pocket IMHO.
Celtic Folk has always been the default music of SCA, and where I discovered it. I was happily falbbergasted as I had all but quit listening to anything out of disgust.
